Archbishop Peter Leads Pilgrimage to the Holy Land September 3-17, 2018

From September 3 to September 17, 2018 His Eminence Archbishop Peter led a pilgrimage of the faithful from throughout the Diocese of Chicago & Mid-America (and from other Dioceses of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia) to the land of the Lord’s birth, ministry, suffering, Resurrection, and Ascension. His Eminence has led nearly 30 pilgrimages over the decades of his service to the Church, and this in and of itself was one of the main highlights of the pilgrimage: Vladyka Peter knows many people there and many people know him. Through these personal relationships virtually every door was open to the pilgrims – and all were very thankful for this. Highlights of the pilgrimage include blessing of the waters at the Jordan River, midnight Divine Liturgy at the Holy Sepulcher, Singing of the Akathist to the Mother of God at the place of the Annunciation, an audience with the Patriarch of Jerusalem, Liturgy at the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, Divine Liturgy and extended visits to the Gethsemane and Mount of Olives convents, and much more. We include here a series of photographs of the major aspects of the pilgrimage. Those who were unable to join this trip are encouraged to plan to participate in the next pilgrimage, tentatively scheduled for May 2020.
