Patronal Feast Day and One-Year Anniversary at All Saints Mission
On Sunday, June 9/22, 2008 the All Saints Mission in the southern suburbs of Detroit, MI celebrated their one-year anniversary.  The mission’s founding was blessed by Bishop Peter in the spring of 2007.  There is a great lack of Orthodox Christian presence in this area of Metro Detroit, and the mission hopes to expose the people of this geographical area to our faith in a traditional and welcoming way.  During the last year the mission has gathered weekly for Sunday Readers’ services in various locations and recently has been granted the use of Holy Ascension Serbian Orthodox Church in Ecorse, MI by His Grace, Bishop Longin.  The Holy Ascension parish has been without a priest for some time.  Bishop Longin’s kind offer has allowed the English language All Saints Mission to work with the Serbian parishioners of Holy Ascension to reinvigorate the parish life of this community and to reach out to those in the local population interested in Orthodoxy.
As Bishop Peter was unable to preside at the Divine Services on the one-year anniversary of the Mission, the Secretary of the Diocesan Council, Priest Gregory Joyce, led the parishioners of All Saints in worship with Bishop Peter’s blessing.  We ask that the diocesan community remember the All Saints Mission in their prayers for the successful fulfillment of their goal – to allow the Orthodox Christians and others interested in Orthodoxy in the southern suburbs of Detroit to gather together as a parish family for the mutual salvation of their souls.
