Decree from the Synod of Bishops

To Archbishop Gabriel of Montreal and Canada
and to the Chancery of the Central American Diocese
At the session of the Synod of Bishops held in New York City from November 22 / December 6 to November 26/9, 2024, those present HEARD a report from Archpriest Gregory Joyce, Secretary of the Diocesan Administration of the Mid-American Diocese, on the death of Archbishop Peter (Lukianoff) of Chicago and Mid-America, who passed away on October 26/November 8, on the day of the Great Martyr Demetrius the Myrrh-bearer.
It WAS RESOLVED: 1) To accept the report. 2) To offer supplicatory prayers for the repose of the soul of the newly departed Archbishop Peter. 3) To make judgment on possible candidates for the vacant Mid-American seat at the forthcoming meetings of the Synod of Bishops. 4) To appoint Archbishop Gabriel of Montreal and Canada to temporarily administer the Mid-American diocese. 4) In the proper places at services celebrated in the parishes and monasteries of the Mid-American Diocese, to proclaim the name of Archbishop Gabriel of Montreal and Canada. 5) On Wednesday, December 5/18, on the feast of St. Sabbas the Sanctified, after the fortieth day of the death of Archbishop Peter, to consider this decree to be in force.
