Bishop Peter celebrates Hierarchical Divine Liturgy at the new St. Basil the Great Russian Orthodox Church in St. Louis

Over 150 people took time off on a weekday to celebrate the paternal feast and the formal opening to the community of the beautiful new St. Basil the Great Russian Orthodox Church in St. Louis on January 14th.

His Grace Bishop Peter along with eighteen priests, two deacons, thee sub-deacons and several altar boys served at the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy which was followed festal banquet that followed at the Lodge of Des Peres, which is located a short distance from the Church.

The weather was ideal for the festivities and contributed to the joyful mood that was so evident among every one present. Priests and clergy traveled from as far away as Connecticut, New York State, Michigan and West Virginia to participate in the festive occasion.

As a memento of their service to the parish, Bishop Peter presented Gramotas to long time Parish Council President Michael Orlando, Building Committee members Andrew Johnstone, Aaron Campbell, and Carol Surgant and to Malcolm Royse, who worked diligently to construct the new iconostas.

Almost every one in attendance commented on the traditional beauty of the new church both on the exterior and on the interior.
