Chicago Cathedral Hosts Winterfest

On Sunday, February 23, the Holy Virgin Protection Cathedral in Chicago hosted its fourth annual Russian Winterfest.  The theme of this year which coincided with Meatfare Sunday was Maslenitsa (Shrovetide).  Featuring bliny with all of the accoutrements, a variety of vendors, live entertainment consisting of several dance ensembles and choirs, the festival entertained a multitude of visitors.  In addition, tours of the cathedral were conducted which introduced outsiders to the Orthodox faith with question and answer sessions lasting almost an hour for each tour.  The festival continues to raise funds for the school building.
