Bishop Peter visits Houghton parish
On Friday February 3rd His Grace Bishop Peter and Fr. Deacon Innokenty Reichert, currently assigned to St. Jonah of Manchuria Parish in Spring, TX, traveled to Hancock/Houghton, MI. His Grace introduced Fr. Innokenty to the beauty of the area by taking a small excursion. In the evening they met with the faithful of the mission of Sts. Sergius and Herman of Valaam. Since His Grace Bishop John of Caracas was consecrated to the episcopacy, this mission has been without a permanent priest. The parishioners faithfully hold Readers services every week and on Great Feastdays, and from time to time are blessed with a visiting priest who will celebrate the Mysteries with them.
On this day, the ladies of the mission provided a tasty lenten meal, during which the faithful described their life in this area and in this mission. His Grace reported to them that God willing he will ordain Fr. Innokenty to the priesthood in March. Fr. Innokenty will eventually move to Houghton to serve the mission.
The visit was ended with the service of Compline. At the end of the service Bishop Peter tonsured Fr. Innokenty as a riassaphore monk.
