Patronal Feast in Marquette

Our parish in Marquette County, Michigan is located in the city of Ishpeming. The parish is named in honor of St. Jacob Netsvetov, great missionary of Alaska. Few know very much about St. Jacob - you can learn more at the mission’s web site: https://www.marquetteorthodox.org/our-patron

The feast of St. Jacob is celebrated annually on July 26/August 8. This year on August 7 the mission held its first ever All Night Vigil in preparation for the feast. On August 8 the Divine Liturgy was led by Archpriest Gregory Joyce, Dean of Michigan ROCOR parishes. Fr. Gregory has been the Acting Rector of the parish, but was able to announce that, with Archbishop Peter’s blessing, Fr. Jesse Rimshas, who was ordained just over a year ago for service at the mission, would be named Rector of the mission. Joining Frs. Gregory and Jesse at the Divine Liturgy was Fr. Artemii Makartetskyi, who traveled from Chicago to participate in the Divine Services. About 25 of the faithful were able to attend the weekday Divine Liturgy, the vast majority of whom partook of the Holy Mysteries. Following the Divine Liturgy a meal was held at which the parishioners discussed the great progress the mission has made in the last two years, this being the second patronal feast of the mission, as well as plans for the future of Orthodox Christianity in Marquette County.
