Archbishop Gabriel Visits Holy Virgin Protection Cathedral

On October 18 and 19, His Eminence Archbishop Gabriel visited the Holy Virgin Protection Cathedral. The main reason for Vladyka's visit was to mark the 100th anniversary of the repose of St Jonah of Hankow, who is the patron saint of the Cathedral Schools. On Saturday evening, Vladyka led the Vigil, while on the Sunday he led the Divine Liturgy. At the Liturgy that day the cleric of the cathedral and student of the Pastoral School of the Diocese, Deacon Roman Tsakhniv, was ordained a priest for service at the St Vladimir parish in Rock City/Vladimirovo, Illinois.

Following the Divine Liturgy, Archbishop Gabriel attended the Cathedral Schools Festival in honor of St. Jonah, including a concert by the children of both the Saturday School and the Classic Academy. Having addressed the gathered parents, children, and supporters on the life of St. Jonah and his example of serving children for the sake of their salvation, and thanking those who are emulating St. Jonah in their labors in the Cathedral Schools, His Eminence departed for Houston, Texas, to lead the Divine Services in honor of St. Jonah there, at the only temple in the world named in honor of the saint.
