A DIRECTIVE for the Cathedral of the Holy Protection in Chicago
I hereby, as temporary Administrator of the Mid-American Diocese, assume the duties of rector of the Cathedral of the Holy Protection in Chicago and director of the Russian Church School at the Cathedral.
I appoint Archpriest Gregory Joyce, Secretary of the Diocesan Office, as my assistant in these duties.
Archpriest Valery Volkovsky remains the sacristan of the Protection Cathedral.
The assistant director of the Russian Church School of St. Jonah, Bishop of Hankow, and its spiritual director remains Priest Anthony Alekseenko.
For all administrative, economic and other questions concerning both the cathedral and the school at the cathedral, please contact Archpriest Gregory Joyce.
I take this opportunity to call upon the clergy, officers and members of the Parish Council, the Sisterhood, the choir director and singers, subdeacons and altar servers, parishioners and worshipers to unanimous prayer for the repose of the newly deceased Archbishop Peter, for the preservation and strengthening of parish life of the Cathedral and its school, as well as for fraternal cooperation, in every way “endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” (Eph. 4, 3), as required by the responsibility entrusted to us for the life of the Church and the salvation of our neighbors. Only in this way will our prayers and efforts serve the glory of God and the good of church life in this, our beloved, piece of American Rus'.
God help us all!
Requesting holy prayers, I remain with love for the Lord,
Nicholas,
Metropolitan of Eastern America and New York,
First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad
