St. Mardarije Inaugural Commemoration in Ann Arbor

With the blessing of Archbishop Peter the first commemoration of the Holy Hierarch Mardarije, who was glorified in July 2017, took place in the place of his repose – Ann Arbor, Michigan – at the St. Vladimir parish. The full cycle of Divine Services was held on December 11-12, with the parish Rector, Archpriest Gregory Joyce, presiding. The St. Vladimir community hopes, in the new future, to build a new temple for this growing parish, with a side altar dedicated to St. Mardarije. Given that Ann Arbor is the place of the saint’s repose, Archbishop Peter gave his blessing for the altar to be named in honor of this saint who is widely venerated by Serbians, Russians, and Americans. Shortly after the glorification of St. Mardarije, Patriarch Irinej of Serbia, while visiting the Diocesan Cathedral of the Protection of the Mother of God in Des Plaines, IL, also gave his blessing for the altar to be named in St. Mardarije’s honor. The parish community asks the prayers of all the faithful that their fund raising efforts bear fruit and that the place of St. Mardarije’s repose will also be a place with a church named in his honor!
