Second Pascha in St. Ignace

A new tradition is already establishing itself in the northern half of the Michigan Deanery. That tradition is, in short, after having served Divine Liturgy for the feast of St. Nicholas the faithful and clergymen in this part of the state set off for St. Ignace, at the northernmost point of the Mackinaw Bridge. This year in fulfillment of this pious tradition the pilgrims to the St. Ambrose of Milan community were challenged only lightly by the weather and road conditions, and a good number of faithful, in addition to four priests and one deacon marked the feast with the Divine Liturgy on December 20.

Archpriest Gregory Joyce, Dean of Michigan parishes, led the services on this day. Also participating were Priest Micah Chisholm from the St. Sebastian Mission in Traverse City, Priest Jesse Rimshas from the St. Jacob Mission in Marquette, the serving priest of the St. Ambrose Mission, Priest Dmitri Mihaliov, and Deacon George Hunt, from the Marquette Mission.

After the Divine Liturgy a Lenten meal was offered to all. Many stayed well into the afternoon reflecting on the feast, and discussing best practices in their various missions. All departed with the firm intention to return again next year for the Second Pascha of the St. Ambrose Mission.
