Diocese of Chicago & Mid-America Hurricane Harvey Relief Efforts

With the blessing of Archbishop Peter of Chicago & Mid-America all parishes of the diocese will take up a special plate collection on Sunday, September 3 and Sunday, September 10, 2017 to benefit the victims of hurricane Harvey. Although there is always a strong desire to send material goods into disaster areas, major disaster assistance charities such as International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) and the American Red Cross are asking that rather than material goods, monetary donations be made. Essentially there is nowhere to store material goods that would be sent, and thus we will not request material goods at this time. The diocese will work with our partners in IOCC to assure that the funds that are donated through our plate collections will go to help those in need, some of whom will be our own parishioners in our Houston parishes. In this regard, Archbishop Peter asks the prayers of all the faithful of the diocese for all who are suffering from this disaster, but especially for the parishioners of the St. Vladimir and St. Jonah parishes in the Houston area. Likewise, those who are able to are urged to volunteer their time and talents for the relief efforts, no matter where they live in the diocese.

As always, funds from the appointed plate collections should be sent to:

Subdeacon Andrei Urtiew, Treasurer

Diocese of Chicago & Mid-America

P.O. Box 1367

Des Plaines, IL 60017

Please include in the check memo: “Harvey Relief”.
