Bishop Peter participates in the Centennial Celebration of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church
On Sunday, October 23, at the invitation of His Grace Bishop Longin, Bishop Peter served Divine Liturgy at the centennial celebration of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Schererville, Indiana. Accompanying Bishop Peter were Protodeacon Vadim Gan, Subdeacon Nicholas Hantel and Reader Andrei Urtiew. At Bishop Longin's request, Bishop Peter presided at the service, leading the clergy and laity in prayer. Concelebrating with the two bishops were nine priests and three deacons. During the reading of the Hours, Bishop Peter tonsured two parishioners Readers of the Orthodox Church.
St. George Church was brimming with faithful. In attendance were Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine of Serbia. Fulfilling the rubrics indicated in pre-revolutionary Russian service texts, Vladika would first bless the Heir, then the assembly. Bishop Peter delivered a homily, praising the Serbian people for their zeal in the Orthodox faith. Both Bishop Longin and Bishop Peter held Crosses at the end of the Liturgy for the faithful to venerate.
The festive meal was held at the Halls of St. George, a Serbian Cultural Center belonging to the parish. The hall was set for nine hundred guests. HRH Crown Prince Alexander and His Grace Bishop Longin both offered congratulatory speeches to Fr. Proto Dobrivoje Milunovic, rector of the parish. The program was concluded by a lively, patriotic concert of Serbian songs and poems, performed by the St. George Church School Children and Bishop Stefan Lastavica Choir.
Glory be to God in all things!
