Bishop Peter visits St. Louis on the Feast of St. Basil the Great
His Grace Bishop Peter made his annual hierarchical visit to St. Basil the Great Parish on January 13 and 14 (NS) to celebrate the parishes Paternal Feast.
Bishop Peter arrived in St. Louis on Friday, January 13th and proceeded to the church to celebrate the all night vigil on the eve of the Feast. Clergy from around the Diocese come to help observe the parish’s feast. Following the vigil a light meal was served in the parish hall by the sisterhood.
The morning of the feast arrived bright and sunny as the Bishop was greeting at the door of the temple by Parish Council President Michael Orlando. Bishop Peter was vested in the middle of the church, and at the conclusion of the reading of the third hour tonsured parishioners Denis Highbe, and Silouan Hefler as readers for the parish.
At the little entrance of the Hierarchical Liturgy, parish rector, Priest Martin Swanson was raised to the dignity of Archpriest.
The choir sang beautifully under the direction of guest conductor Reader Alexander Petrovsky from St. Sergius Cathedral in Parma, Ohio.
During the homily Bishop Peter urged the large congregation present to live the Orthodox life as directed by our heavenly patron St. Basil, and to support the building of a new parish church for the Glory of God in St. Louis.
Following Divine Liturgy and the traditional Cross Procession a festive banquet was hosted by the parish, and was attended by well over 100 parishioners and friends of the parish community.
A glorious day ended with the Bishops departure to the airport for a late afternoon flight.
